Random-ness Thoughts...

I love to wake up to snow-especially when I didn't expect it!

I love large families...with lots of kids running everywhere!

I love the Cowboys when they win....which they're not right now.
They are going down in flames as I type.
I think Mr. Phillips might be looking for a new job.

I love when all the laundry is done and put in its proper place.

I am NOT going to make any New Years Resolutions this year. I always have high hopes and try to make realistic goals but life gets in the way...

The Christmas decorations are starting to make me nuts...I am ready to put them up...but "life" is in the way and I am not sure when I am going to have a chance...to complete this task!

I have these new slippers from Wal-Mart...they are the redneck version of Uggs...they are fluffy, and soft, and keep my feet good and toasty.

Randy and I both are into the Wii that Santa bought me. We stayed up until 2am playing these ridiculous games last night! We are going to Wal-Mart right now to purchase more games, and equipment!

The nail from my right index finger has been off for two weeks...I don't think I am going to put another one on it. It is sort if handy not having it...I can put creme on John alot easier with out it. I look weird...but does anyone really care??

I am going to be 37 in a few weeks. I know that is not old...but I don't see myself as 37...I can't believe I am going to be 37...I still see myself as 25...with wrinkles.

Happy New Year...2009 is almost here!

Cap'n Crunch for Christmas??

I am apologizing in advance to my family for the gift wrapping on your presents this year. I love to wrap gifts…all perfect…using double-sided tape…folding the edges down so neatly…matching the gift tag to the theme on the wrapping paper…coordinating the gift to wrapping paper or gift sack…oh….gift sacks….I like to use lots of colors…bright colors…ohhhhh….deep sigh!
Things have drastically changed in my life…I now have a fifteen month old boy…and the gifts looked wonderful for the first few days under the tree.
Now…terror has struck my tree and gifts. You can imagine…tissue paper, bows, ribbons, balls, ornaments, & wrapping paper everywhere …I had a fleeting thought…”did I miss Christmas morning??”
So…I apologize for the sloppy gift wrapping, the wrapping paper that looks like it has been wrapped & unwrapped a 100 times, tissue paper that looks like it has been recycled, bows that appear to have gone under a steam roller, ripped packages, and Captain Crunch in odd places.
These pictures are from the original wrapping party a few weeks ago. I have learned you can not leave a 15 month child alone...not even for 10 seconds.

Casper???

I have never believed in ghosts…now I believe in angels & that sort of thing. But when I would hear stories of houses being haunted by a ghost or a spirit I would just nod my head and think to myself that would be a good story around a campfire…and “that person” is out there!!
Well…I am “that person” now and I see people nodding their head at me when I speak of the ghost/spirit that lives with us.
Randy and I started having or seeing weird little things about nine years ago. For instances….we would be lying in bed and hear the cabinets in our house open and close (you know how you know your house…certain cabinet doors make certain sounds)…or we would be sitting on the couch and see something drift through the hall at the same time…and our cat who would be purring on our lap would stop and look in the same direction. We have had numerous peculiar happenings but I will get straight to the big one.
In 2002 after dealing with our spirit for a number of years she pulled a good one on us. Okay…let me say this…we are pretty sure it is a girl and she is not evil…I know what you are thinking…”Tina has lost it now”…just stay with me here and explain this to me. It was the middle of the night around 2:30-3:00 and Randy woke me up to tell me the radio in my bathroom was on. (My bathroom is down the hall) As I got up…half asleep…I heard it playing “Back in the USSR” by the Beatles. I knew immediately it wasn’t coming from my bathroom because I listen to country or talk radio. As I got to our bedroom door I realized it was coming from our guest bedroom which is next door to our bedroom. I yelled at Randy that it was from the radio in the guest bedroom…ran…jumped back into bed and threw the covers over my head. Randy grabbed his handy 357 and went to investigate. Some how the portable cd player came on. There were no batteries and it was not plugged in but the Beatles cd was the cd in the player and “Back in the USSR” was the first song. That portable player never worked again.
Last night around 1:10 in the morning I was playing on the computer…we went to bed early but the dogs needed to go outside so I put them out for a few minutes…Randy and John were asleep in our bed. As I was typing away…the portable cd player in John’s room starting playing the cd in the player. Once again it was not plugged in and there were no batteries. I turned it off and it did not come back on…once I plugged it in it started working this morning.
Strange huh?

Santa & John

John visited Santa today - he loved it.
He talked to Santa (nothing we would understand) and smiled the entire time.
Can you say little ham??

You Just Can't Fix Stupid!

For the last few months I have been using Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner. I am not really sure that it works all that good but I like the smell plus it makes me feel like I have cleaned the shower…hee…hee.
Today in the shower I was reading the fine print on the cleaner. There were instructions on how to replace it, how to install batteries…and then…I read…”Not a Body Wash”. Not a body wash? Seriously??? Not a body wash? Apparently someone has used this as a body wash…got a horrible rash…called to complain…so the Scrubbing Bubbles Company had to add this as a disclaimer on their product! This stuff cracks me up!
Melissa and I had a good laugh at Furr’s Buffet one day. They had a fancy engraved sign at the register that said something along the lines…”we can not discount your meal if you have had gastric bypass”. Once again.…seriously??
I looked at the cashier and I said “seriously?”…and she knew exactly what I was talking about!! She said she gets the question more than I would want to know…that’s why they had a sign made.
You know…you just can’t fix stupid!!

#1. All of my Christmas shopping is done!
#2. My favorite blog to read is By Grace Alone.
It gives me inspiration when I need it most...check it out!
#3. John is featured in a 2009 Calendar for Family Coaching - He is Mr. March! Family Coaching is a great organization...it saved my life!http://www.familycoaching.org/
Let me know if you would like a calendar!
#4. My parents are the best! I am spoiled - yes it's true!
I was so tired this afternoon but I still had to go to the grocery store and Sam's. My Mom volunteered to keep my precious while I did my last minute shopping.
#5. My parents are awesome! They told me to stop and have a quite dinner with my husband...before I went to the grocery store.

#8. Randy bought me some cute shoes!
#9. It is going to snow tomorrow!
#10. My parents again...they bought me a Orbis for Christmas!
Now...I want to know ten things you are GREATFULL for!

P.D.A.

I love my Randy and I could not do what I do with out him.
I don’t know that I have ever put this “out there”…but it is on my heart to do so.
We work like a well oiled machine when it comes to taking care of John.

Take tonight for example – John has been at party central (MaMa’s house) all evening. When we came home Randy immediately got John ready for his nightly bath. I started the bath, got his pajamas ready, and gave him a bath. After his bath I rubbed him down with lotion and all the good smelling stuff while Randy made a bottle. Once I finished my part Randy takes over, he gives John a bottle and John usually falls asleep, then I come back & put him in his bed. We do this without saying a word or request – we just do it.

This works perfect most nights…it didn’t last night…Randy and I were in routine but John was not ready to go to bed…he fought sleep last night. It made for a long night…I didn’t get much sleep but Randy took over around 2am and let me sleep in our bed…nice & quite. I am pretty sure I gave John too much sugar yesterday which….I am aware sugar is a really bad thing.
Back to Randy….he just takes care of John – no complaints…he loves it.

My Mom always said Randy would be a great father - I knew he would be good but only to a certain point. Not criticizing my loving husband but he would agree with me that he was never a “big fan” of children before John. He viewed children as little icky-sticky, noisy, messy making, tantrum throwing, booger eating, crazed monsters. Now…anytime he sees a baby we have to discuss what age the baby is…ask the mother…and then seize our opportunity to play goo-goo with the baby! It is the total opposite of what he was before! I love it!

The other day we were at the mall and it was very cold outside…a mother with three small children (under 5) came in the door as we were going out.
Randy made it a point to tell me very loudly (so she could hear)…”HOW OUTRAGEOUS IT WAS THAT NONE OF THOSE CHILDREN HAD ON HEAVY CLOTHES OR ANY TYPE OF EAR PROTECTION…AND HOLD THE PHONE…LOOK THAT ONE HAS FLIP FLOPS ON”! He was really upset. I myself was too shocked to say anything…no I wasn’t shocked about the children – that sort of stuff has been going on forever…I was in shock about Randy….and then my heart warmed up. So precious. It is amazing how the Lord can change someone. I learned long ago that I can’ t change a person, and a person can only change if they want to change…and that takes help from our Lord!

So…here’s to my Randy. Thank you. You tell me all the time that I am a wonderful Mother…well…you are a wonderful Father…and I could not be wonderful if it wasn’t for you.

Procrastinate...

I hate to procrastinate!
If there is a job to do…then I do it…immediately – I have been like this…my whole life. For instance…
I always did my homework as soon as I came home from school...I remember some of my friends would have to go home early on Sunday to finish homework…I would be shocked that they did not do it on Friday afternoon….what were they thinking??
So…whatever the task is I like to get it out of the way and if I don’t complete it soon it sticks in my mind – constantly…and makes me crazy! (Does this sound like a compulsion disorder??)
This “compulsion” makes my husband…insane! I find is amusing the Lord put us together because Randy is the procrastinator…if it gets done great…if it doesn’t great. This has caused many great “heated” discussions in our house.
This leads me to my latest task…Christmas Cards!
I love sending Christmas cards…especially with a picture of John.
I have had my 2008 cards ready to go almost a month now but I need a Christmas picture of John. As I walk by the dining room I see the cards sitting there…wanting to be mailed! This is making me nuts!
My sister-in-law Linda offered to take the picture of John for me. I have been very excited about this since Linda takes AWESOME pictures…she did the Halloween and some great fall pictures of John. My favorite picture of John in the yellow hat…it was taken by her. She has a wonderful eye for this…she should do it professionally!
Anyway…we have been waiting for John’s face to clear up to take the pictures - he still has some chicken pox marks. Finally one day last week Linda came over to take the picture…I just need one! John Randall would not cooperate! I don’t know what was in his crawl that day but he would not smile – at all! Linda was very patient and she is so good with him but he was not going to be told what to do that day! Here are a couple that I sort of liked but look at the chocolate on his chin…I was trying to bribe him!! Linda said we would just do it another day. I felt bad…she really tried but my one year old would just not cooperate!
Fast forward to today…
I got more Christmas cards… and I got edgy…my unfinished project was not completed! As luck would have it John woke up from is nap in the best mood and I thought I had better strike while the iron is hot. Randy threw John’s Christmas outfit on him…went outside and snapped about ten quick pictures…they turned out pretty good. I know that Linda’s would have been better but I did not want to bother her again…she has a ton of things going on right now. So…thank you Linda for helping me out! Here are some pictures from today…you will have to wait for your card to see the one we chose!

The Post Office Part II

My friend Melissa has a story about the post office on her blog…and I as well had my own personal experience on the same day…at the same post office!

Here is the link to her eventful moment…
http://haskells5.blogspot.com/2008/12/he-sent-her.html

Once I finished helping Melissa I went to stand in the line that was out the door. Normally I would have opted out and went to the post office another time but I had to get my brother’s package in the mail to go to Iraq…that way he gets it before Christmas…and yesterday was the last guaranteed day.

As I was standing in line this “sweet” older lady asked me "if my package was going to someone in the war". I said "yes"…she wanted to make small talk and I wasn’t too chatty - I know…Tina…not chatty???...what’s up with that…well since I had been up at the crack of dawn finishing Larry’s gift I was really tired - not chatty. I told her “yes…my brother was there”.
Which at this point wasn’t a lie….he is in the middle of the war…then she said “has he been in the military long?” Once again…I would like to reiterate I wasn’t up to chatting…so I thought if I said "yes my brother was in military" the conversation would end.

----I should mention that my Mom was in the truck with John----

I didn’t mean to lie to this lady…I was just tired and didn’t want to explain how he works for a company from Houston, and he is over there actually working as a civilian, he is on a military base, and he works for the military as a civilian so he is not in the military but he works...blah...blah...blah. Ugh...please move line...please move!!

Well…she started peppering me with questions like a press frenzy questioning Sarah Palin about her wardrobe! Questions like…is he married…how old is he…what does his wife think of this…does he have any kids…is he happy….is their marriage in trouble…on…and on… I kept giving short answers since my little lie was starting to snowball.

I told her that I loved my brother very much and I missed him…and thank goodness cause that got her started on her family. I found out that she has two younger brothers and two old sisters. One of her brothers is like the Dad in the family…they had Christmas in July cause one lives here, one lives there…and did you know the weather over there is like that…and her brothers wife is from Monterrey, Mexico and doesn’t speak english at all but her brother is fluent in spanish but nobody else in the family is…and she doesn’t smile much which makes the entire family uncomfortable….at this point I am asking God to please move the line a little faster.

Twenty-Two (22 that is) minutes later...

Finally my break came and I sprinted to the counter….never so glad to see a post office clerk in my life! I looked back to wish her a Merry Christmas but she was too busy telling everyone else in line about my brother...in the military...in Iraq...that I missed every much - so I got clapped and several “thank yous” as I left the building!! Ugh....

When I got the truck I had to tell my Mom about my adventures at the post office.
She cut me off and said she had her own stories!
She found an Alaskan quarter in my car…she only needs the Alaska & Hawaii quarters to complete her collection…apparently she dropped the quarter and she was bend over in the seat looking at the floor.

----The truck was running…it was like 35 degrees all day yesterday! ----

All of a sudden the driver’s door flew open…Mom expecting to see me…instead saw a tall...dark stranger…not a cute one either! She gasped and apparently he did too! He had the wrong car…his car was parked next to ours.

After Mom’s heart stopped beating out of control...she locked the doors...and went back to look for that Alaska quarter…which we still can not find!

As bizarre time...it was sort of funny…Mom and I laughed all the way home.

Another Book...???

I am not sure what has gotten into me but I finished another book this week! This book was over 300 pages...with no pictures either! One of my friends mailed me this book... "Grace" by Richard Paul Evans. The only thing I am going to tell you is what the author has on his web site which is...
Grace is the story of a young runaway girl and the boy who hides her from a frightening world too large and unfathomable for him to comprehend. It is also about two brothers and the love that binds them together through difficult times. In some ways this is the most autobiographical of all my novels. When I was eight-years-old my father lost his job and we moved from our beautiful home in California to a rundown, rat-infested home in a poor neighborhood, like the one I describe in the story. Most of all, Grace is a story of a young couple learning to love. I hope you enjoy my latest novel.
I could not put it down until I finished it. It reminded me of the Boxcar Children...if you know what I am talking about. I would recommend it...it was very touching.

The Christmas Sweater

I love books. I have hundreds of them but I can never find the time to actually read them. A good friend and I always laugh at this other friend cause she has 50 million self-help books and has only read the first chapter...when in reality that is actually me...but I read the last chapter too. With all that being said I would like to recommend a Christmas book to you. The book is a true story by Glenn Beck. Beck is a conservative radio host & had a show on CNN...he is moving to FOX in 2009. I have been listening to Beck for 5 to 6 years...and I love him. I just "get" him...not alot of people do...& many people I know don't care for him. Anyway...Beck has wrote this book "The Christmas Sweater" and it is an amazing book...I finished it in three days...I could not put it down! I would pass my copy around but I have marked it up, and I plan on making it a Christmas tradition to read. It has a great and inspiring message!
