Valentine's Day

I come from a long line of great cooks.  Both of my Grandmothers were MAJOR cooks, my Aunts are & were wonderful cooks, and my Mom is the best chef...ever!!!

When I lived with my folks I remember my Mom would cook something new and it didn't matter what is was...or how it was cooked but my Dad loved it.  In 38 years I have never heard my Daddy complain once about anything my Momma cooked.  The only thing I remember hearing was..."can I get some more of that".

So...imagine my surprise when I got married and my husband would sometimes not eat what I cooked.  What was up with that?  I thought the husband was just suppose to eat whatever was severed to him and say..."can I get some more of that".  I  have cooked for friends in the past and no one ever said..."hmm I think I'll pass and go to McDonald's".  This caused my confidence in cooking to burn up.  (Side note - I am not blaming my husband or beating my husband down.  In fact I have come to love this honesty in Randy.  I know that when he says he loves something....he really loves something.)

In the past few years I have really started cooking more and more.  I really like to try different recipes and adventure out to something new.  Especially with Weight Watchers - I cook something different every night whether it is a side dish or the main entree.  Some of the stuff is not that good - lacks flavor but there has been several new items that are now regulars on our menu.

This morning while reading my morning devotions this author wrote about his love for  Goldenrod Eggs.  Goldenrod Eggs?  Maybe he was thinking Golden Arches??  I "Googled" Goldenrod Eggs - don't you just love the internet - and found the recipe for Goldenrod Eggs.  Apparently it is cream gravy with boiled eggs served over toast.  I was thinking I had all the ingredients - I should try it for the fun of it.  I don't make gravy.  I have never been able to get it just right...so I gave up gravy along time ago.  - plus...it has a zillion calories.  But I decided not to think about it...being gravy and just follow the directions.

I made it.

Served it to Randy...and he was giving me one of those looks.

After the first bite he looked at me and said..."can I get some more of this...it is the best stuff ever!"  YEA!!!

There was much rejoicing!!

I hit a home run!

He likes it....Mikey likes it!!

He has already started requesting it for breakfast tomorrow and the next day...and for dinner...and for breakfast...and for lunch.

This was and has been a great Valentine's Day!

Sounds good. Maybe Kevin and I will try it later this week. It does sound "heavy" on the calories though and very filling.

Holy cow, I've always wondered what that was called. Mimi (Leelee's mom) made me that for breakfast one day when I was a kid and I loved it. Delicious. I'll have to try it myself some day.
